one half of billionlightyearland · citizen of Rome, in spirit
The year 2779 ab urbe condita, “from the founding of the city”: Rome's own count, as of the day this page was last built.
Who
One half of billionlightyearland, with skhul.
Where skhul reads the Maya, bownz reads Rome: the empire, its roads and aqueducts, its emperors and senators, its ruins, and its paperwork.
Works
bownz's own projects, outside the band.
To be inscribed: works go on this tablet when bownz chooses them.
Music
Half of the music of billionlightyearland, made with skhul.
Hear it on the band's boombox, or on SoundCloud.
Why Rome
This page borrows from Roman inscriptions: square capitals, words divided by a raised dot, and no letter U, which Latin writers carved as V.
The numbers are Roman numerals. The year counts from the traditional founding of Rome in 753 BC, and the band across the page is patterned after Roman floor mosaics, which were laid in small square tiles called tesserae.
S·P·Q·B is ours, after S·P·Q·R, “the Senate and People of Rome”. Read it as the Senate and People of bownz. The columns and mosaic are drawn for this site.
Notice from the Bureau
The Bureau has been informed that all roads lead to Rome. Corridor 7 has been informed that it is not a road, and has taken this badly.
