APPENDIXEVERYTHING BELOW IS TRUE
What this is
billionlightyearland is a band, made by two lifelong friends, skhul and bownz, and an absurdist music and multimedia collective around it. The name is not a place one billion light years away: it is a name for outer space itself, and it stands for limitless creativity and self-discovery. It is never capitalised.
This website is part of the project. It presents the project as a fictional institution — the Bureau of Collapsible Instances — which has been given the impossible job of filing the moments, rooms and sounds that open inside all that space and then collapse.
The bulletin on the front page, addressed to newcomers, is the band's own words, reproduced exactly as written, deliberate misspellings included.
What is fiction
The Bureau, its staff, departments, forms, tickets, corridors, cycles, ledger entries and catalogued objects are all invented for this site. There is no such institution. Nothing on this site describes a real award, review, sales figure, venue, release date, collaborator, licence or press mention.
The Transmission Ledger describes recordings. Those descriptions are writing, not documentation, and no audio files are published here. Ifbillionlightyearland releases something real, it will appear on this site and be labelled plainly as real.
The creative studio
billionlightyearland LLC is a real company, a limited liability company registered in Hawaii (some state paperwork writes the name in capitals). As well as being a band, it is a creative studio offering website design, video production, photography and graphic design, and it takes on other creative work too, with skhul and bownz as creative directors. Those pages are the Commissions Office. They are printed on pale green paper, marked VERIFIED, and everything in their main text is true. The only jokes there sit in boxes labelled "Note from the Bureau · fiction". No clients, prices, reviews or past projects are claimed on them. Every commission is quoted individually.
The music video page
The alert strip at the top of every page leads to a warning notice in front of our music video for Why. The video is ours, hosted on YouTube, and the player is not loaded until you click it. The warning copy is deliberately grandiose: the Saturn B.A.A.L. Alliance and its "Best Earth Single of the Previous 2x10^18 Cesium-133 Oscillations" award are invented, and no real award, chart position, review or listener figure is being claimed anywhere on that page. The long quotation on it is an excerpt from Hermann Hesse's novel Narcissus and Goldmund, quoted and attributed; the bold and italic emphasis in it is ours, not Hesse's.
Which pages are placeholder text
The pages about us — the band, skhul, bownz, the biography and anarchomonarkapitalism — are currently placeholder text. They are invented filler standing in for real information that has not been written yet, and each one says so on its face. No real dates, places, releases, exhibitions, collaborators or press are claimed on any of them. anarchomonarkapitalism is a joke philosophy invented for this project and describes no real party, movement or organisation.
What the site does with your input
The grievance form at Desk 4 never leaves your browser. It does not submit to a server, it is not saved, it sets no cookies, and closing the page discards it. The receipt it prints is generated on your device from what you typed.
Accessibility and how to get around
The site is deliberately strange, but the strangeness is not supposed to cost you anything. Navigation on the front page is a tick-box form; struck-through lines are genuine dead ends and say why beside them. Blacked-out text in the ledger is marked up as withheld so a screen reader announces it instead of reading block characters. Decorative plates in the catalogue are hidden from assistive technology. Animation is disabled if your system asks for reduced motion. Every page carries a skip link and a footer route back here.
Corridor 7 and Sublevel B are the two odd rooms. Corridor 7 is a dead end with a marked way out. Sublevel B is unlisted and is reached by submitting a grievance at Desk 4 about Desk 4.

That is a real address and a real person reads it. It is the only working way to reach billionlightyearland from this site — the grievance form at Desk 4 is fiction and sends nothing anywhere.
